Welcome!

Founded in 2011, Watertown Community Gardens’ (WCG) mission is to empower people to grow their own food, promote environmental stewardship, and cultivate community connections through gardening in Watertown.

WCG has created and maintains several public pollinator gardens throughout the city to support native plants and pollinators, such as birds, bees and butterflies.

We hold volunteer work days, during which volunteers help with garden care while learning about the benefits of planting native plants and how they can beautify the community.

While WCG’s community garden space has been limited in 2023 and 2024, we are actively seeking  new spaces to establish community gardens in the future, and eagerly awaiting the reopening of the newly rebuilt, improved and expanded Arsenal Park Community Garden in 2025.

Thank you to our generous supporters for helping us pursue our mission:

Please join the City of Watertown at the first community meeting for the future Walker Pond Park on Thursday, August 14th at 6pm at the Jewish Community Day School (57 Stanley Ave, Watertown, MA 02472).

At the meeting, you can expect a presentation about the ecological study’s findings, followed by a visioning session to collect community input to develop design options for the site.

We will also be hosting the opportunity to see the site at Walker Pond prior to the meeting, at 5PM. Those interested are welcome to meet the City’s Open Space Planner at Walker Pond, behind Watertown Ford (link to location on Google Maps).

Please stay tuned for future announcements for more information about the walk-thru and parking options in the area for interested residents. This meeting will not be the only opportunity or time you will be able to get involved in this exciting process. We plan to have the meeting recorded and there will be an online survey - so if you're not able to join in person, there will be other opportunities to participate.

Following the meeting, the City will release an online survey, as well as hold additional meetings to gather more community insight into the park. See the project overview at www.watertown-ma.gov/1423/Walker-Pond

    Help keep the Greenway green!

Come join neighbors and path users as we work to remove invasive plants and restore wildlife habitat on the Watertown-Cambridge Greenway.

The focus for each Greenway work day varies, depending on which invasive species are the highest priority at the time. On summer work days, we will likely be cutting a patch of Japanese knotweed or mugwort, clearing out areas of mixed invasive plant species, and caring for the Pollinator Garden established on the Greenway in 2024. We'll update this page as Greenway conditions change, and make some decisions on the ground, depending on weather and the number of folks who join us!

Register to get reminders and event updates (and help us ensure we have enough snacks!).

    Details:

    * Starting point is at the trail intersection between Watertown Mall and 490 Arsenal Way (with bench and bike racks).

    * Please bring: drinking water, a hat, and garden gloves if you have them. Please wear long pants, socks, and closed toe/sturdy footwear. A kneeling pad or similar foam pad can be helpful. We also recommend long sleeves for protection against bugs and occasional poison ivy.

    * We will provide trash bags, and extra gardening gloves and other tools.

    * If you haven't yet signed a 2025 waiver, you will be asked to sign this waiver upon arrival. Any participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, or bring a waiver signed by a parent or guardian in advance.
